How to convert a video to GIF

Settings that keep your GIF small
GIF is an old format and files grow quickly. These settings make the biggest difference:
- Length. Keep clips short. 2–6 seconds is ideal, and the tool allows up to 30.
- Width. 480 px looks sharp in chats and blogs. Every step up in width makes the file much larger.
- Frame rate. 10–12 fps looks smooth for most clips. Use 15–20 fps only for fast motion.
- Colours. GIFs can show up to 256 colours per frame. Choosing 128 or 64 shrinks the file with little visible change on simple scenes.
Where to use your GIF
Most platforms accept GIFs, but each has limits. Chat apps and social networks set their own size limits, and GIFs inside emails work best under 1 MB. If your GIF is too large, lower the width or frame rate and convert again.
GIF, MP4 or WebP?

Why is my GIF so large?
GIF uses old compression. Shorten the clip, lower the width to 320–480 px, reduce the frame rate or choose fewer colours.
